Re-elected village chair nabbed for drugs

KIDAPAWAN CITY – Operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) arrested a newly-proclaimed chairman in Makilala, North Cotabato, after a raid in his home Wednesday yielded drugs and bullets.

PDEA said they had been monitoring Melvin Fortajada for some time now.

“Even though he wasn’t in the PDEA list which our agency published weeks ago, Fortajada has long been included in our watch list,” a PDEA agent said.

Fortajada, when interviewed by Catholic-ran DXND, admitted to surrendering to Makilala Mayor Rudy Caoagdan, a personal friend, during Operation Tokhang in 2016.

During the raid, PDEA operatives recovered from Fortajada’s house five sachets of shabu; and several bullets from a pistol of unknown caliber.
