A newly elected barangay official who is also an active member of the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit was gunned down by suspected New People’s Army rebels in Agusan del Norte Wednesday.

Capt. Al Anthony B. Pueblas, spokesperson of the Army 402nd Brigade, identified the victim as Edgar Rosal Panisan, 40, of Barangay Mahaba, Cabadbaran City, Agusan del Norte.

Pueblas said the incident happened in Barangay Mahaba at about 12:45 a.m.

Pueblas said the victim was shot to death by members of the Guerilla Front-21C of the North Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee.

“While serving his constituents during their barangay fiesta celebration, the victim was shot by the NPA, hitting his left chest which caused his instantaneous death,” Pueblas said.
