Humidity is still high in the morning, enough that isolated to scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are possible in the afternoon or evening in some parts of the country until the weekend, a weather forecaster said yesterday.
Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration weather specialist Ariel Rojas said warm mornings will continue but expect higher chance of severe thunderstorms occurring in the late afternoon or early evening.
Forecast temperatures in the next three days will be 24 to 35 degrees Celsius in Metro Manila; 25 to 36 degrees Celsius in Tuguegarao City; 16 to 25 degrees Celsius in Baguio City; 25 to 31 degrees Celsius in Cebu City; and 25 to 33 degrees Celsius in Davao City.
From Friday to Sunday, Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will have a hot weather but there is a high chance of rain in the afternoon or evening due to localized thunderstorms, Rojas said.
Meanwhile, some areas in Visayas and Mindanao may still be affected by the intertropical convergence zone, an area where trade winds from the Northern and Southern Hemispheres meet, characterized by frequent and often severe thunderstorms.
The ITCZ will continue to bring cloudy skies with rain showers and thunderstorms in Cebu City, Iloilo City, Bacolod City, and Tacloban City on Friday.
By Saturday, skies in these cities will become partly cloudy to cloudy but rains may still occur in the afternoon or evening.
Rojas said Davao City will still be affected by the ITCZ, particularly on Sunday when severe thunderstorms are most likely to occur that can trigger flash floods or landslides in areas highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards.
PAGASA does not expect the formation or entry of a tropical cyclone within the next three to five days. (Ellalyn V. Ruiz)
