Scottie Thompson knows how to look back on his humble beginnings before becoming one of the best players in the PBA today.
With his new program called “Train with Scottie,” the Ginebra guard looks to share his basketball knowledge and inspiring stories to aspiring basketball youth with one goal in mind – to give back.
Allen, Chris, and Kurt were the first batch of students taught by Thompson in coordination with coach Joph Cleopas of J Hoop Basketball amid the coronavirus pandemic.
While Cleopas served as the main instructor of the mini basketball clinic, Thompson also did his job by assisting and actually joining the three youngsters in executing basic basketball drills.
“Gusto ko ma-inspire sila. Gusto ko makita nila na, ‘Eto pala ‘yung ginawa ni Scottie. Kung bakit nasaan ako ngayon sa sitwasyon ko,” said the five-time PBA champion.
“‘Yun ‘yung point ko rito. Gusto ko ma-inspire sila kaya lahat ng pinapagawa ni coach [Joph], ginagawa ko talaga,” the former Perpetual Help standout added, stressing the importance of basic learning as a good foundation for starters.
Before the training kicked off, Thompson graced a retail store of World Balance, his shoe sponsor, at Robinsons Place in Las Piñas to gather basketball shoes for giveaways.
Allen, Chris, and Kurt happily geared up with their new kicks and used it right away for the training at the Divine Light Academy as seen on Thompson’s 20-minute vlog on Youtube.
This is just also the beginning of Thompson’s new advocacy, urging viewers and fans to comment on his video or reach him through Instagram for possible private courts open for training.
“[M]alay niyo kayo na ang next na pupuntahan namin,” wrote the 27-year-old Thompson.
