The low-pressure area off the Pacific coast is seen to intensify into a tropical cyclone in the next few days.
Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration weather specialist Raymond Ordinario said the LPA will likely enter the country’s area of responsibility tomorrow.
The LPA has a high probability of developing into a tropical cyclone in the coming days, he added. The next tropical cyclone will be named “Marilyn.”
So far, the brewing tropical cyclone has no direct effect over the Philippines. PAGASA said the southwest monsoon or “habagat” will be the prevailing weather system that may affect Luzon.
Monsoon rains will be experienced over Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Benguet, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, Pampanga, and Bulacan today.
Residents in these areas were advised to take extra precaution against possible flash floods in low-lying areas and landslides in mountainous areas.
Cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms will prevail over Metro Manila, Aurora, Nueva Ecija, Rizal, and Ilocos Norte.
The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms. (Ellalyn Ruiz)
