Sen. Manny Pacquiao recently visited residents of the earthquake-affected municipalities in North Cotabato.
The boxing icon personally handed the relief goods and sanitary facilities to the families in the different evacuation centers, according to Jake Jason, Pacquiao’s special assistant.
“What they do not know, Sen. Pacquiao wanted to quietly visit our countrymen who were affected by the earthquake in Mindanao. The reality is, while he was in Korea, he has already instructed us to immediately prepare and distribute relief goods to the earthquake-affected families. Upon his return, the senator rushed to Mindanao to see for himself the condition of his fellow Mindanaoans. He extended help to the quake families,’’ Jason said.
Pacquiao said that behind the devastation, he saw in the faces of the people the spirit of hope, love, and faith.
He said he went to Cotabato to distribute relief and give comfort but he saw “the remarkable resilience of his fellow Mindanaoans, their courage, and strength amid the odds.’’
“In my heart, I know Mindanao will rise again soon,” Pacquiao said. (Mario Casayuran)
