BACOLOD CITY – A 59-year-old man, who paddled a boat for four days from Cebu, was placed under 14-day quarantine, after he was intercepted by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)-Negros Occidental in Calatrava town on Friday.
Commander Jansen Benjamin, head of PCG-Negros Occidental, said that the man travelled on board a boat from Argao, Cebu to return to his hometown here despite the travel ban.
Benjamin said that an unmarked non-motorized boat docked at the shoreline of Barangay Lemery in the town past 10 p.m.
He arrived safely in the province and was subjected to a medical consultation. Then he was brought to Calatrava Evacuation Center for his 14-day quarantine.
Last week, Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson has temporarily halted the entry of locally stranded individuals (LSIs) from Cebu into the province, following the rise in the number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the province.
He has requested from the national Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) to expand the travel ban out of Cebu City to the whole province of Cebu. (Glazyl Masculino)
