Economic slump or not, Filipinos are no doubt enthusiastic about the 11/11 sales on Wednesday.
During the days and weeks leading up to the big sale, e-commerce platforms Shopee and Lazada have been very busy enticing buyers to add items to their carts and secure the best deals for Christmas.
The marketing gimmick worked as Filipinos hilariously shared on Twitter (11.11 HAHAHAHA) how they purchased items – some of them, they admitted, are not really needed.
@jajanelba tweeted, “We are all a victim of 11.11 HAHAHAHA.”
@tkksexc shared she bought skincare products that are “mahal” (expensive), while @yoonginiism jokingly said she is going to buy “756,453,324,568 sheets of stickers today since it’s 11.11 HAHAHAHA.”
@Nicarrabla08 shared she was also a victim of 11.11 HAHAHAHA because the “first thing I did when I woke up is to check out all items I add[ed] to cart.”
@mjanellee__ said she got enticed by the free shipping offered. However, she defended her purchase: “I badly need[ed] that item for real,” she tweeted.
There are netizens who are urging others to buy the things they’ve been eyeing.
“If you’re looking for a sign to check out your items, this is it. Life is too short. Confirm your orders today!!! #Lazada1111 11.11 HAHAHAHA,” said @JanBuklatin.
Some netizens encountered issues when checking out their items.
@Real_MrsPayne complained, “11.11 HAHAHAHA no free shipping, no discount on SOME items that I want, no cashback.”
Not everybody was victimized by the enticing sales, and @indaymerlee even joked that Lazada’s endorser, Korean star Lee Min Ho, only told buyers to “add to cart” and not actually “proceed to checkout” or “place order.”
@ARABELLEDONNY posted a photo with a “reminder” to herself.
The photo showed a cookie with the message: “I don’t know who needs to hear this, but you don’t need anything from Shopee today.”
