Reigning Asian 9-Ball Open champion Chezka Centeno routed Chantal Stadler of Germany, 7-2, and advanced to the next round in the Predator World Women’s 10-Ball Championship in Klagenfurt, Austria Wednesday, Sept. 7.
Centeno had an easy time dispatching her German foe as she put on display the brilliance that won for herself the SEAG and Asian titles.
The win arranged the 23-year-old Centeno a showdown with Japanese Chihiro Kawahara, who trounced Adriana Villar of Costa Rica, 7-3, for a chance at the lion’s share of the total cash pot amounting to $148,000 (P8.4 million).
It also cushioned the impact of the loss by teammate Rubilen Amit to Ina Kaplan of Germany, 7-5, in a result that put the reigning champion on the brink of elimination.
Amit, though, still has a chance to relive her bid for a third crown if she could win all her remaining matches including this one against Poland’s Monika Zabek.
Another loss for the Hanoi Southeast Asian Games double-gold winner would mean outright elimination.
Meanwhile, Amit teamed up with Carlo Biado in a 3-1 win over Switzerland’s Claudia Von Rohr and Ronald Regli in the world team event.
Amit split her two matches with Von Rohr, losing the first, 4-2, before bouncing back in the second, 4-2, while Biado swept Regli with a pair of smashing 4-0 victories to seal the win.
