National University showed too much class as the Lady Bulldogs demolished the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons for their third straight win, 25-17, 25-16, 25-17, in the first round of the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament on Saturday, March 2, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
The Lady Bulldogs scored their second straight dominant win off straight sets to improve their record to 3-1 while handling the Lady Maroons their fourth defeat this season and 15th dating from last season’s one-win campaign.
Sophomore Vange Alinsug unloaded a team-high performance with 15 points highlighted by 13 attacks, including the clincher that helped NU seal the victory.
Former MVP Bella Belen and Alyssa Solomon contributed 10 poi8nts each in the merely contested three-set affair.
Following their disappointing loss to University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses in the opening day of the tournament, the Lady Bulldogs appeared to have found offensive rhythm as mirrored by their offense.
The State U, on the other hand, is yet to break through into the season under its new head coach Oliver Almadro.
Not even one Fighting Maroon breached the double digit mark, with reigning second Best Middle Blocker Niña Ytang finishing with only seven points in the nasty defeat.
