Manila, Philippines – The Philippine Consulate in Dubai, United Arab Emirates confirmed that it will file an appeal on behalf of a 25-year-old Overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who was sentenced early this month to one year imprisonment for having an illicit relationship with another OFW, a Filipino migrant rights watchdog reported.

The Filipina has insisted throughout the hearing of her case that the person she is accused of having an illicit affair with is actually her husband.

According to Migrante-Middle East regional coordinator John Leonard Monterona, the Filipina testified before the Dubai Court of Misdemeanors that she and her husband got married on June 10, 2007 in the Philippines, three days before she moved to Dubai for work. (Roy C. Mabasa)
