Manila, Philippines – No long weekend for Filipinos at the end of the month? The Andres Bonifacio Day (Nov. 30) which falls on a Wednesday will not be moved to the nearest Monday as far as Deputy Presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte is concerned.

Valte when asked about the matter said that based on Proclamation No. 84, Bonifacio Day, should be observed on its original date which falls on a Wednesday. The Palace official, however, said that she would have to verify it with the Office of Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr. Proclamation No. 84 that was issued by President Benigno S. Aquino III returned the commemoration of holidays back to their original dates.

Republic Act 9492 which was issued by former President now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo declared that holidays that are not religious in nature can be moved to the nearest Monday “unless otherwise modified by law, and/or proclamation.“ (JC Bello Ruiz)
