PBA Commissioner Chito Narvasa yesterday fined Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao R20,000 for his actions in Game 1 of the semifinal series versus defending champion San Miguel Beer in the Smart Bro PBA Philippine Cup last Tuesday at the Mall of Asia (MOA) Arena in Pasay City.
Guiao was assessed with a technical foul for contacting SMB’s Chris Ross, whom he bumped while inbounding the ball in front of the Rain or Shine bench with 9:45 left in the third period.
“The act of physically contacting an opponent is considered under the rules as grave unsportsmanlike gesture that should have merited an ejection,” Narvasa said.
The referees did not eject Guiao in that game won by San Miguel Beer, 109-105.
Also penalized P20,000 was RoS center Beau Belga who rose from his seat then pushed Ross. The fine is based a league rules on seated players leaving the bench while a commotion is happening.
