The Philippine National Police (PNP) said yesterday that a man whose video of repeatedly hitting a motorcycle rider went viral in the social media is not a cop.

Chief Supt. Wilben Mayor, PNP spokesman, said that as soon as they were informed about the video spreading in the social media, they immediately obtained a copy and have it examined by their Anti-Cyber Crime Group (ACG).

“He appears to be a policeman because of the shirt he was wearing, the shirt appears to be our patrol shirt uniform,” said Mayor.

The official said they immediately suspected that the man in the video was not a cop since the shirt was tucked out, which runs counters with an instruction that the shirt should be tucked in.

“We also immediately made verification of the ownership of the vehicle and we found out that the car was registered to a certain Mary Grace Santos,” said Mayor.

“It coincides with another posting in the social media that the person is a certain Gaylord Santos. We have no Gaylord Santos in our roster,” he added.
