NGOs laban sa BoC corruption

Hiningi ng Bureau of Customs (BoC) kahapon ang tulong ng non-government organizations (NGOs) para matugunan ang problema ng korapsyon sa ahensiya.

Sa isang media forum sa Manila Hotel, ipinahayag ni Customs Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon na aktibong partisipasyon ng iba’t ibang NGOs at iba pang pribadong grupo bilang watchdogs ay ang bagong kasangga niya sa laban sa korapsyon sa ahensiya.

“These private sector groups will help me greatly in effectively checking corrupt practices at the agency. I cannot always be there personally watching every customs transactions that is why these private watchdogs,” he said.

Kamakailan lamang, binigyan ni Faeldon ang 11,000 Customs brokers at importers ng isang buwan upang ibunyag nila ang mga katiwalian sa ahensiya kung ayaw nilang mawalan sila ng lisensiya sa darating na Bagong Taon.

“It is impossible that corruption can happen at the Customs bureau without the knowledge of these stakeholders,” sabi niya. (Argyll Cyrus B. Geducos)
