Anti-kidnapping police operatives arrested a barangay captain for his alleged involvement in the burning of bodies of a businesswoman and her driver who were allegedly ambushed in Bulacan three months ago.
Senior Supt. Glenn Dumlao, director of the Anti-Kidnapping Group (AKG), said the arrested barangay captain identified as Apolonio Policarpio Marcelo Jr. was tagged as the mastermind in the death of 59-year old Edeltrudes Tan and her driver John Jason Puyo.
Tan and Puyo, according to Dumlao, were reported missing on March 25 while on their way to the businesswoman’s farm in Barangay Pulang Yantok in Sta. Maria town where Marcelo is the barangay captain.
The car they were riding in, a Mitaubishi Pajero, was later found abandoned in Norzagaray town with several bullet holes.
The official said they only learned of what really happened to the businesswoman and her driver after Marcelo’s driver, Adriano del Rosario, surrendered and confessed his participation.
It was del Rosario who also named four other suspects who carried out the attack on Tan and Puyo namely Oliver Elfa, Ariel Seraspi, Antonio Poso Jr. and a certain Ronel. They remain at large.
Asked for the motive, the husband of the businesswoman said Marcelo owed them at least R6 million. (Aaron Recuenco)
