President Duterte said he hopes North Korea would not commit a mistake of firing missiles that would lead to catastrophic results.
The President has expressed concern about the threat posed by North Korea, saying its leader was “playing with dangerous toys.”
“The only thing that bothers us all, kaming mga nasa itaas, is the ruckus now going on in the Korean Peninsula. I hope that guy does not commit a mistake. It could be a serious one,” Duterte said in a media interview during a visit to a Japanese ship docked at the Subic Bay Freeport last Sunday.
“One of these days, he keeps on flying the missiles. One of these days mag-landing ‘yan sa Luneta tingnan mo. Magulo na ‘yan,” he said.
The President earlier called on concerned parties to exercise restraint to ease the tension in the Korean peninsula arising from North Korea’s nuclear and missile tests.
Duterte had said China could help bring North Korea back to the path of dialogue to resolve the conflict. He also asked the United States to proceed with caution and patience when it comes to the North Korean leader.
Duterte said the North Korean leader wants “to end the world” with his penchant to release missiles.
“The guy (Mr.Kim) simply wants to end the world, that is why he is very happy. He is always smiling. But he really wants to finish everything and he wants to drag us all down,” he said during a recent regional summit in Manila. (Genalyn D. Kabiling)
