7 p.m – Cocolife vs Generika-Ayala
Organizers of the Philippine Superliga will be donating part of its gate receipts to table tennis Olympian Yan Lariba as the league’s All Filipino Conference fires off today at The Arena in San Juan City.
PSL’s Ian Laurel yesterday said half of their gate proceeds on Tuesday and Thursday next week will go Lariba, who was recently diagnosed with leukemia.
“We want to support every best we can to our fellow athlete by doing this,” said Laurel.
A total of eight teams will be participating in this conference.
The format, however, was shortened to give way to national athletes preparing for the Asian Women’s Volleyball Championships here in Manila and the Southeast Asian Games in Malaysia.
Both events will be held in August.
Cherrylume, a roofing company, debuts against powerhouse Foton at 5 p.m. while Cocolife and Generika-Ayala clash at 7 p.m.
Cherrylume is composed of University of the East varsity players who are out to gain exposure in time for their ambitious title bid in the UAAP.
Other teams are defending champion F2 Logistics, Sta. Lucia, Petron Blaze, Generika-Ayala, Foton, Cignal, and Cocolife.
“We’re hoping for our best performance and take it one game at a time,” said Cherrylume coach Lerma Giron.
Dubbed as “Home of the Elite”, the league will showcase some of the country’s top players, including Aby Maraño (F2 Logistics), Jaja Santiago (Foton), Rachel Daquis and Jovelyn Gonzaga (Cignal), and Mika Reyes (Petron), to name a few.
All eight teams will undergo a double-round eliminations for placing in the quarterfinals. Final matches will be played in a best-of-three format.
The PSL will also bring its matches to different provinces such as Cavite, Batangas and Bulacan.
