The government won’t give up on the bid for a federal form of government despite the lack of interest from Filipinos, Malacañang said yesterday.
President Duterte has admitted that majority of Filipinos are not ready for federalism, especially those living in places where he had expected strong public support for his campaign promise.
Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said the information drive on the federal form of government shall continue to enable Filipinos to understand the benefits of this form of government.
“Sabi niya, dapat ituloy ito, dapat ituloy ‘yung information drive para maintindihan ng ating mga kababayan,” Andanar said in an interview over Radyo Pilipinas.
“Federalism was part of the President’s platform of government during the campaign, and we will continue this push for federalism,” he added.
Andanar said Duterte is tapping private mainstream media organizations to promote federalism since government channels, including the Presidential Communications Operations Office, are not enough.
“Kaya nga nakita natin ‘di ba na ang ating Pangulo, sinabi niya na dapat tumulong ang mass media para nga i-inform ang ating mga kababayan patungkol sa federalism,” he said.
