10 a.m. – La Salle vs Ateneo (Men’s)
2 p.m. – UST vs FEU (Women’s)
4 p.m. – La Salle vs Ateneo (Women’s)
Another thrilling duel is expected in UAAP women’s volleyball today as longtime rivals La Salle and Ateneo clash at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Game time is at 4 p.m. with both teams, sporting identical 4-2 cards, try to untangle themselves from a three-way tie for second place.
Far Eastern University is also determined to improve its 4-2 record when it battles University of Santo Tomas at 2 p.m.
Attention, however, will be on the Ateneo-La Salle showdown with the Lady Spikers out to end a two-game slide and at the same time extend their winning streak over the Lady Eagles since their title series last year.
This season, however, has a new twist.
While La Salle is on alarming skid, Ateneo is on a roll, having won its last four games after a 0-2 start.
Rediscovering their once mighty form, Ateneo beat University of the Philippines, 25-20, 25-22, 28-26, the time while La Salle is still smarting from a stunning 25-18, 15-25, 25-19, 25-22 loss to darkhorse Adamson last week.
Their records aside, expect the Lady Eagles and the Lady Spikers to give their all before an anticipated huge crowd as they go for another bragging rights.
The battle between setters Deanna Wong of Ateneo and Michelle Cobb of La Salle is expected to provide a sub-plot with both players ably filling in the void left by versatile players – Jia Morado for Ateneo and Kim Fajardo for La Salle.
Cobb is currently leading that department with an average of 8.36 sets per frame, while Wong is not far behind with 8.27.
