MULTI-AWARDED veteran actress Cherie Gil took to Instagram Saturday, to announce her theater comeback via “Angels in America: Millennium Approaches.”
She wrote, “In honor of World AIDS Day, it’s finally been said! Been biting my tongue from sharing this to the world!”
Gil, currently visible on TV via the GMA primetime series “Onanay,” admitted she has long wanted to do another theater project going on to thank producer Atlantis Theatrical Entertainment Group’s Bobby Garcia for the opportunity.
“I can’t thank Bobby Garcia enough for giving me this amazing material to grit my teeth and sink my heart, mind and soul into,” she wrote.
Gil is also thankful the play involves a “fantastic ensemble” that will “bring to the fore living, breathing human hearts from whom I can only learn from and grow.”
Note “Angels in America: Millennium Approaches” which is set to open at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium March next year, also stars top-tier actors Art Acuña, Pinky Amador, Angeli Bayani, Topper Fabregas, Andoy Ranay and Markki Stroem, among others.
A two-part play by awarded American playwright Tony Kushner, “Angels in America: Millennium Approaches,” tackles AIDS and homosexuality in America in the 1980s.
The work won numerous awards, including the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, the Tony Award for Best Play, and the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Play. (NEIL RAMOS)
