CAMP OLA, Albay – A man was shot dead by police when he stabbed the three-year-old son of his niece he held hostage in Masbate province early Sunday morning.
Police Major Malu Calubaquib, Police Regional Office 5 (PRO-5) spokesperson, said the suspect, Magdaleno Bustamante, held hostage his niece Rovelyn Uy, 28, teacher, and her son Christ Jerome Uy, all residents of Brgy. Poblacion 2, Mobo town, Masbate.
Calubaquib said that the child died while being treated of stab wounds at the hospital.
Initial investigation disclosed that around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, the suspect armed with a knife entered the room of the victims and threatened that them.
Calubaquib said that the incident was immediately reported to police who quickly responded and secured the area.
Caluaquib narrated that during the negotiation, the suspect suddenly stabbed the child, prompting the SWAT team of 1st Police Mobile Force Company (PMFC) to shoot him. The suspect died on the spot.
“Sa report po sa atin ng Mobo PNP, ang demand ng suspect ay maraming media at mga baril na may bala,” Calubaquib said.
She said the hostage drama ended around 7:45 a.m. on the same day. (Niño N. Luces)
