The public may expect a report that is “not explosive” but “recommendatory” from Vice President Leni Robredo when she releases her findings on the drug war next week.
“Hintayin iyong ulat sa bayan, kasi we tried to be as comprehensive as possible, given the very limited time na binigay sa atin,” Robredo, former co-chair of the Inter-agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs (ICAD), said.
Robredo had served briefly as ICAD co-chair last month until she was sacked by President Duterte from her post for her supposed incompetence to handle the job.
Following her removal, Robredo asked Duterte what he feared she would find out as head of the government’s task force against illegal drugs. She then said she would make public her discoveries and recommendations on the drug war.
The Vice President wants to publicly release her findings since Duterte has yet to read the previous two reports she sent to Malacañang. She also intends to publicize her 3rd report now the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games comes to an end.
Her upcoming report contains recommendations on how to improve ongoing efforts to solve the drug menace in the country.
Robredo pushes for a community-based rehabilitation that treats drug addiction as a public health issue and not just law enforcement approach in solving the drug problem.
“May mga nakita tayong pagkukulang, at iyong magiging rekomendasyon natin, kung papaano ma-correct iyong mga mali, at papaano ma-correct iyong mga pagkukulang,” she said.
Asked if her report contains administration’s lapses, she replied: “Mayroong mga bagay na wala tayong personal knowledge.”
Since Duterte took office in June 2016, the bloody drug war has led to at least 6,000 suspected drug personalities killed in legitimate police operations, government data showed. (Raymund F. Antonio)
