Police have arrested a former lady cop for allegedly trying to cash in money from lawmen who wish to be re-assigned to other units, an official said Tuesday.
Col. Ronald Lee, director of the Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG), said former Staff Sergeant Beverly Banan was arrested during an entrapment inside a mall in Pasay City.
Lee said that based on the information they received, Banan has been boasting that she could easily work for the speedy re-assignment of policemen in the area of their choice in exchange for money.
“She demanded P40,000 to P80,000 from one of my men who posed as seeking re-assignment,” said Lee.
The meeting was place was inside a fastfood in Pasay City mall at around 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Banan was collared after receiving the marked money.
Banan was previously detailed at the Police Regional Office (PRO) 1 Regional Human Resource and Doctrine Division and she was declared dropped from rolls in 2013.
National Police chief Archie Gamboa lauded the IMEG for successful operation against Banan but said investigation must still be conducted to identify the other companions of the arrested suspect to prevent them from preying on policemen.
Banan is currently under IMEG custody and will be slapped with criminal cases. (Aaron Recuenco)
