A man posing as an official of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) was arrested last week by the agents of the bureau in Cainta, Rizal.
NBI Officer-In-Charge Director Eric Distor said the suspect, Generoso Bitalac Lim, was nabbed by on Feb. 26 during an entrapment operation conducted by the NBI’s Special Action Unit (NBI-SAU) in Barangay San Juan, Cainta.
Following his arrest, Lim was presented for inquest before the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor of Rizal for estafa and usurpation of authority.
Distor said the case stemmed from a female complainant whose daughter had filed a rape case in court.
The complainant recounted that Lim went to her home and introduced himself as the head of the NBI’s Violence Against Women and Children Division (NBI-VAWCD).
Distor said the NBI has certified that Lim is not connected with the NBI and that the NBI-VAWCD is headed by Olga Angustia-Gonzales.
The complainant said that the suspect demanded money from her so as not to delay the issuance of warrants of arrest against the accused.
The suspect also threatend the complainant that the rape case would be dismissed upon the death of her daughter.
Lim also claimed that the accused in the rape case has strong connection with the mayor of Cainta.
Because of this, the complainant sought the help of the NBI for the arrest of the suspect. (Jeffrey Damicog)
