ZAMBOANGA CITY – An Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) bomb-making expert involved in the bombing incident at the Batasan Complex in Quezon City that killed then Basilan Representative Wahab Akbar 13 years ago was arrested Friday in a Muslim village in this city.
Zamboanga City Mobile Force Company (ZCMFC) commander Police Lt. Colonel Roland Barraquio said the bombing at the Batasan Complex on November 13, 2007 also wounded two legislators and five civilians.
Barraquio identified the arrested suspect as Kahar Indama, alias “Khang,” a cousin of Basilan-based senior ASG leader Furuji Indama.
Barraquio said Indama was arrested during the implementation of a search warrant for violation of Republic Act No. 10591 (The Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act).
Police recovered from his possession one improvised explosive device (IED), one hand grenade and a .38-caliber revolver loaded with three ammunition.
Indama was also involved in the ambush of the 4th Special Forces (SF) Company of the Philippine Army in 2007. The incident also killed seven Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit (CAFGU) members and a member of Barangay Peacekeeping Action Teams (BPATs); and wounded three Philippine Army officers, four enlisted personnel, and a member of a Civilian Army Auxiliary (CAA).
Barraquio said Indama is now under the custody of ZCMFC for proper disposition and documentation. (Nonoy E. Lacson)
