Brig. Gen. Vicente Danao vowed to flood the streets of Metro Manila with policemen as part of intensified police visibility as he took over on Wednesday the helm of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).
“More of police visibility on the streets. This is now part of our marching orders, let us flood the streets of Metro Manila with policemen in order to ensure the safety and security of our constituents,” said Danao in his assumption speech.
The NCRPO has a strength of more or less 30,000 policemen, and Danao said that it has always been a challenge to guard every street and corner of Metro Manila due to its large population.
He, however, said that he would bank on strategic deployment of policemen as part of preventive measures against criminal incidents.
“We can only do that if we properly account our personnel,” said Danao.
On Wednesday’s turnover of commands where he assumed the NCRPO top post from now national police chief Debold Sinas, Danao also vowed to aggressively implement measures against erring cops.
“There may be some misdemeanor but let us be mentors to them. But to those hardheaded who will continue, the door is open for you to leave because I will be very strict in implementing my program of internal cleansing,” said Danao.
“So I expect all members of the NCRPO to toe the line. I am appealing to you, let us put this to stop, especially the anti-illegal drugs,” he added. (Aaron Recuenco)
