Kapamilya breakout loveteam KD Estrada and Alexa Ilacad marked a milestone in their young careers recently, appearing in their first international movie.
Titled “Toss Coin,” the film is a short directed by Cathy Garcia-Sampana for “Hong Kong In The Lens By Asian Directors” a project by CJ ENM Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Tourism Board.
The two are quite happy about it.
“Pinagyayabang ko siya, ang maka work si Direk Cathy. It’s an honor to be chosen to do this. Sabi ko nga, we have to impress them and be fun to work with,” said Alexa.
“Alam naman natin na si Direk Cathy is a master of RomCom, I was very shocked and nervous, but Alexa and I talked na we’re going to bring our A game and we want to make the story shown to everyone,” KD added.
Cathy on her part intoned, “I really enjoyed working with KD and Alexa. They are quite fun, open and hassle-free.”
“Toss Coin” revolves around an unexpected encounter between Kiko (KD) and Pia (Alexa).
Playing a delightful game of hide and seek, Kiko and Pia embark on a journey that unravels into a sweet and touching romance exploring the themes of destiny, belief, and the courage to embrace opportunities.
“It’s actually a challenge for me,” said Cathy, noting how she got used to telling a story in a 2-hour time frame. “Dito kasi kailangan isiksik ko lahat without it appearing rushed or pilit.”
After directing the highest-grossing domestic film in Philippine history “Hello, Love, Goodbye”, shot in Hong Kong, Direk Cathy once again emphasized the beauty of the city by bringing out the authenticity and human connection within the film through the scenic backdrop of Hong Kong and the compelling chemistry of the lead actors.
“While I personally like the city’s human touch and culture, this time, I had the opportunity to show the other side of Hong Kong, highlighting the beautiful architecture of the buildings and the intersection between artistic galleries and vibrant murals that blended perfectly with the story and Kdlex’s chemistry,” she shared.
“Hong Kong In The Lens By Asian Directors” has been chosen to be part of the 20th Hong Kong Asian Film Festival with two other micro films “Hong Kong, Within Me” as directed by Kang Yun Sung, the Korean director and screenwriter of “The Outlaws,” which is the third highest-grossing restricted film in South Korea since 2017; and “Zi Mui” as directed by Nattawut Poonpiriya, the director and screenwriter of “Bad Genius,” Thailand’s highest-grossing film since 2017.
All three microfilms will be available on tvN Asia and Viu starting December 11.
It will also be aired on A2z and Kapamilya Channel.
