Amid speculations on social media, reigning Rookie of the Year-Most Valuable Player Angelo Canino of La Salle confirmed her playing status after showing up wearing a sling on her right arm.
The 20-year-old outside hitter is sitting out the defending champions’ ongoing game against University of the Philippines in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament on Thursday, April 4, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
As it turns out, Canino is nursing a right arm injury she sustained ‘not related to volleyball’ according to the court side report.
With Canino out, Baby Jyne Soreño replaced her in the starting lineup along with the Lady Spikers’ usual rotation.
Additionally, ‘there’s no timeline for her return’ as she recovers from the injury.
In the ongoing UAAP Season 86, Canino averaged 16.25 points, 5.75 excellent receptions and 4.75 excellent digs as the Taft-based squad’s top performer.
It was also her first time missing a match for La Salle since making her debut last year where she played 17 straight games all the way to the champion-clinching win.
