Power-hitting Angge Poyos continued to impress, posting a career-high 31 points as University of Santo Tomas downed Adamson, 22-25, 25-20, 26-24, 25-20, to book the first Final Four slot in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday night, April 3, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
The 20-year-old outside hitter produced her mind-boggling output through 27 attacks, one block and three service aces in the tightly-contested four-set affair.
Poyos’ output of 31 bettered the 30 posted by fellow rookie sensation Casie Dongallo of University of the East.
More than clinching the first semis berth, the Golden Tigresses showed they have the resolve to bounce back from a stinging defeat to National University before the Holy Week break– their first in 9 games.
UST thus improved its slate to 9-1 to maintain its hold of the solo lead while Adamson slipped to 2-7.
UST libero Detdet Pepito took care of the floor defense with 21 receptions and 19 digs, while Jonna Perdido and Regina Jurado contributed 12 points apiece in the win.
Barbie Jamili, for her part, paced Adamson with 20 points all on kills made.
