Derek Ramsay is happy and excited to return to acting via Quantum Film’s “Kampon.”
The film, an entry to this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival , is a horror-suspense offering that Derek insists is far removed from the usual.
He told us, “It’s not your typical horror movie. Kakaiba ang story and you know I’m only too happy to be part of something this good. Like I said, I’m pretty comfortable retiring from acting pero kapag maganda ang material like this, I won’t say no.”
In the story, Derek plays the role of a retired cop married to the character of Beauty Gonzalez. The two have been hoping to have a child but to no avail.
Then, out of the blue, a young girl appears at their doorstep.
Is she the answer to their prayers?
Beauty made clear, “Masu-surprise kayo. You might think that after seeing the trailer, you could, more or less, gauge the film pero hindi. It has so many layers. For sure, those who will watch it will be in for an exciting ride.”
Sharing the screen with Derek and Beauty is newcomer Zeinab Harake who plays the role of the “other girl.”
She said, “Sobrang saya ko po na ito ang first movie ko. At parang Anne Curtis levels lang kasi may love scene akong grabe with Sir Derek. Of course, binigay ko ang lahat para sa ikagaganda ng pelikula.”
The film is directed by King Palisoc who wants to redefine local horror films, offering an innovative approach in terms of cinematography, film score, and special effects.
“Sa totoo lang, kami ng creative team, we spent some 3 to 4 years perfecting this film,” he said.
“Mabusisi po naming trinabaho ito in an effort to give viewers something new, something different,” he added.
“Kampon” opens in cinemas Dec. 25.
